Nov 9, 2010….6.9 miles elliptical-30 minutes.

Wow, what a great workout! I slept in this morning and wasn’t able to get my workout in. I debated on skipping it all together, but decided to do it after lunch. Usually I wait a good hour and a half after lunch to workout WHEN I workout after lunch. But this time I decided to try to do the workout just under an hour after I ate to see how I would feel…I was thinking I might get a cramp or a side stitch or SOMETHING-but I was fine the WHOLE TIME!  Up til now I have done all my runs in the morning on pretty much, an empty tummy. But as my runs are getting longer, I am thinking I may need to eat SOMETHING ahead of time.  So this gives me hope that I CAN eat something an hour or so before a run and not get a cramp or feel like I need to hurl at any point =)

This elliptical workout I did a little differently.  I started with 10 min of warm up. I checked my heartrate and it was around 140 throughout this first 10 mintues. The 2nd 10min was a fast tempo pace-effort wise I would say it was at about a 5K pace. My heartrate was around 190-200 during this time.  Then I brought the pace and heartrate back down for 3 min (heartrate was around 140 at the end of the 3min) then I went back up to 5K pace for the next 7 minutes.  Total workout time 30:00.

I really like doing ‘intervals’ on the elliptical.  I am hoping it will help me build up my lungs. During my last race, my legs could TOTALLY have gone faster but my lungs were screaming ‘WHY?!?! WHY are you doing this to us?!??!’

Yeah. Quite pathetic.

4 miles….40:20….47* slight wind….gear: tank top, LS shirt, shorts, music, hydration belt

Great run this morning. Tried to keep it at recovery pace and was able to breathe thru my nose for most of the run except on the up hills. However I think I must have had a little too much pep in my step to keep it around 11 min miles =)  It felt great though.

I was chilly enough the first 10 min that I wished I had worn my gloves and my headband. I think anytime its under 50 and there is even a SLIGHT wind, I need to wear my gloves and headband.  I LOVED starting out earlier today and still having so much daylight.  Went a new way today. Love that.

It’s 9:30am and I STILL havent gotten my upper body workout in, so I am hoping to do that this afternoon.

On another note, I would REALLY like to get better control over my eating. I am OUT. OF. CONTROL when it comes to foods I really like.  I’m not overweight at all, but I have quite a little pooch below the belly button that drives me bananas.  I am perfectly happy with my waistline, its my ‘hip line’ that leaves me feeling -grrrrrr- everytime I look in the mirror.  With as much as I am exercising, I am sure its all due to my eating habits.

That 400 calorie bowl of ice cream everynight before bed probably isn’t helping the situation either.

But its my fuel for my morning runs, so…….

8 mile run….1 hour 22 minutes….40*, slight wind….gear: headband, LS shirt, tank top, shorts, Chill Chaser tights, hydration belt, music

Ran this one with my hubby.  Tried to run at a nice easy pace and not focus at all on if I was running fast or slow enough.  I think hubby enjoyed doing it with me, but was probably quite bored =) He’s not a runner but is very athletic and in shape and probably would have had us running 8 min miles or less if HE was to lead the pace. Hopefully next summer I can run some runs at a pace that feels like an actual RUN to him and not a light jog =)

We didnt start out until around 930am which is ABSURDLY late for me. I am a ‘get up and go’ runner and have been waking at 645 and I am out the door by 7. This morning I got up around 745 and snacked on some pringles and cheerios until around 830 or so. Not much because I didnt want to get a belly ache, but enough so that I wouldn’t be starving later.  Around mile 3 in the run my stomach started to growl and I thought ‘oh no…already? What’s mile 7 gonna be like if my tummy is growling already?!’  Thankfully, it went away before we even hit mile 4 and I didnt feel hungry again until we were on our way to Scheel’s and convienently there was a Taco Bell on the way =)  A nacho cheese chalupa tastes MIGHTY fine after an 8 mile run =)

It was 40* out at the start with a good breeze. I was very chilly on the warm up walk, but warmed up enough to take my long sleeve shirt off around 10minutes into the run.  Hubby put some new music on my playlist last night so that was nice.  I may be the only person who likes to rock out to such DIFFERENT music (Jason Mraz -Geek in the Pink, Blackstreet-No Diggity, Alan Jackson-Chattahoochee….What IS a hoocheecoochee anyway?)….

The temps were PERFECT for running and I really REALLY enjoyed the company of my hubby on the run. It was nice to have some new music too.  I was very pleased with the pace and felt pretty good at the end. My knees started to ache a bit around mile 6 thru the end of the run. But an hour later, they felt back to normal. I never know if I need to be worried about the knee aches in my long runs or if they are normal? Considering glucosamine….does anyone else take it?

After the run, we ran over to Scheel’s to look at cold weather gear. My land, that stuff is PRICEY!  I eventually want to get some nice warm running gloves that aren’t thick, but that also don’t cost an arm and a leg. I am also on the lookout for a base layer thermal shirt and base layer thermal tights.  I am hoping Target has something for cheaper than Scheel’s did, but if not I will most likely end up going back there to get them.  Oh and warm socks. My toes have been getting a little chilly on my morning runs.

I am SO excited for the time change! Now I can start my runs earlier like I like too (I do NOT like running in the dark. Ninja, I am not.

Well, maybe just a little…

Nov 4, 2010….2 mile run at an easy pace (21:00)….then home for 14minutes (3 miles) on the elliptical, followed by lower body….42* with a windchill of 35 (BRRR!)…gear: headband, LS shirt, tank top, shorts, Fila running tights, gloves, music (no hydration belt!)

This is the week that I start to run consecutive days.  I am hoping that this transition will be a smooth one as long as I take it easy.  This Saturday I am running 8 miles (with my hubby!!) and then next week is my last week on this 15K plan.  So next week I have a 3, 2, and 9 miles on scheduled. However, I think the lower weekday mileage is to reflect a time of taper for a 15K race, however I will not be racing, so I may bump those miles up a bit.  When I am done, I still plan to jump into a half marathon plan somewhere around mid-way.

Today was CHIIIIILY!  I think an ACTUAL 35* would have been more bareable than 42* with a windchill of 35*.  I didnt even take my LS shirt off during this run. After the first mile I was wishing I hadn’t worn the tank top underneath the LS shirt as I got a little warm and I HATE being warm when I run. However, the warm up walk down to the end of my street I was SOOOOO cold!  I am going to look for a face cover this weekend as my cheeks got pretty cold, and maybe some arm warmers as well, which will be easier to remove than my LS shirt when I warm up.

So anyway, the 2miles went really well. I was able to breathe thru my nose pretty much the whole time which I am going to use as an indicator that I am running at a pace close to recovery.  Then I got home and jumped on the elliptical for 14 minutes (3mi) to complete my cardio for the day.  Then I did lower body and went a little easy on the exertion since I didnt want to poop my legs out TOO much =)  I am so excited to run 8 this weekend!!
